Husbands and Wives
Husbands and Wives
Genesis 2:18 And the Lord God said, It is
not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.
Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave
his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one
flesh.
Exodus 22:16-17 And if a man entice a maid
that is not betrothed, and lie with her he shall surely endow her to be his
wife.
If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money
according to the dowry of virgins.
Deuteronomy 24:1-4 When a man hath taken a wife,
and married her, and it come to pass that she find no favour in his eyes,
because he hath found some uncleanness in her: then let him write her a bill of
divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house.
And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another
man’s wife.
And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement,
and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter
husband die, which took her to be his wife;
Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be
his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the Lord:
and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the Lord thy God giveth thee
for an inheritance.
Proverbs 5:18-21 Let the fountain be blessed:
and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Let her be as the loving hind and the pleasant roe; let her breast
satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace
the bossom of a stranger?
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth
all his goings.
Proverbs 12:4 A virtuous woman is a crown to
her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a
good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.
Ecclesiastes 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife
whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given
thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this
life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.
Malachi 2:14-16 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because
the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom
thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy
covenant.
And did he not make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And
wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your
spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.
For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for
one covereth violence with his garment, saith the Lord of hosts: therefore take
heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.
Matthew 5:32 But I say unto you, That
whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth
her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced
committeth adultery.
Matthew 19:5-6 And said, For this cause shall
a man leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain
shall be one flesh?
Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath
joined together, let not man put asunder.
Matthew 19:8-9 He saith unto them, Moses
because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but
from the beginning it was not so.
And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for
fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth
her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Mark 10:7-9 For this cause shall a man
leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
And they twain shall be one flesh: so they are no more twain, but one
flesh.
What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder.
Mark 10:11-12 And he saith unto them,
Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery
against her.
And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another,
she committeth adultery.
Luke 16:18 Whosoever putteth away his
wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her
that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
Romans 7:2-3 For the woman which hath an
husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the
husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she
shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from
that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
1 Corinthians 7:1-5 Now concerning the things
whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and
let every woman have her own husband.
Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also
the wife unto the husband.
The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise
also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that
ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer: and come together again, that
Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
1 Corinthians 7:10 And unto the married I
command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But
and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband:
and let not the husband put away his wife.
1 Corinthians 7:14-15 For the
unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is
sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they
holy.
But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is
not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.
1 Corinthians 7:27 Art thou bound unto a wife?
seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
1 Corinthians 7:32-34 But I would
have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that
belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:
But he that is married careth for the things that are of this world, how
he may please his wife.
There is a difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried
woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy in body and in
spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may
please her husband.
1 Corinthians 7:39-40 The wife is
bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she
is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.
But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgement: and I think also
that I have the spirit of God.
Ephesians 5:22-25 Wives, submit yourselves unto
your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of
the church: and he is the savior of the body.
Therefor as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to
their own husbands in every thing.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and
gave himself for it;
Ephesians 5:29 For no man ever hated his own
flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church.
Ephesians 5:33 Nevertheless let every one of
you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she
reverence her husband.
Colossians 3:18-19 Wives, submit yourselves unto
your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all,
and the bed is undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
1 Peter 3:1 LIKEWISE, ye wives, be in
subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may
without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell
with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the
weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your
prayers be not hindered.
